Thai skin-whitening model is a fraud

In Thailand, no commercial break is complete without a gormless model applying a blob of skin-whitening cream to her porcelain cheeks. It's all bollocks of course and the gullible women who buy it would be better off using a sunscreen. Some are left permanently scarred by the caustic ingredients in the more dubious brands. My girlfriend's mum is one of them.

Angelina Jolie aside, I'm not particularly interested in women who share the same ghostly pallor as me. Like many farang men, I love brown skin and my Thai girlfriend fits the bill perfectly.

Unlike her, many Thai women hate their dark skin and wear it like a badge of shame. Given the choice between a brown-skinned babe and a white skinned pig, Thai men will choose the pig every time. Little wonder then that the skin-whitening business is Thailand's favourite quackery.

Recently, my girlfriend pointed out a well-known skin-whitening model on the street. She was drop-dead gorgeous, alright, but the advert had misrepresented one important detail - she was as brown as a nut.

It all goes back to the fact in Thailand that dark skin means from a farming or outside work and less education and tha job makes less money. But then a office job where the skin is fair because less light or sun tanned flesh means more money and higher education. This is just Thai thought process. Look at all the kids you see walking around the streets with the skin whitener.

I have to agree that this farang cares nothing about the skin tone of a Thai woman. Any shade of beautiful Thai female is nicer than what I look at on the streets at home. As long as they clearly look ASIAN and not AFRICAN. Then we go into another set of historical events........
