Sex-offenders register for Thai coyote dancers

The Thai government's "War on Pretties" entered a new phase yesterday as top cops were ordered to keep tabs on shapely coyote dancers by adding their names to a new sex-offenders register. Clad only in their trademark crop-tops and hot pants, the leggy lovelies might now be hunted down in fast-paced chases reminiscent of The Benny Hill Show.
The order, issued by deputy national police chief Pol Gen Wongkot, could lead to footage of the sexy pursuits being broadcast at triple speed to the accompaniment of Boots Randolph's Yakety Sax.
YouTube has already been banned in Thailand but pre-arrest footage of our scantily clad freedom fighters in action can still be found on Google Video.
The catalyst for this latest crackdown was a lavishly illustrated newspaper report expressing faux-concern about coyote dancers performing at a temple fair in Samut Sakhon. Local journalists must be pissing themselves laughing because they've once again managed to goad Thailand's politically inexperienced leaders into a knee-jerk reaction.
If the editors play their cards right, semi-naked girls could be making headlines for days to come.
With censorship so high up on the Thai government's agenda, it seems bizarre that they've neglected to set up a much-needed movie rating system. They rely instead on an unaccountable Censorship Board to make arbitrary cuts.
The results are laughable.
Thai youngsters are free to vomit up their popcorn as a crazed Dr. Lecter feasts on the flesh of his mangled victims in Hannibal Rising but grown adults aren't allowed to see a monk strum his guitar or fly a radio-controlled aeroplane in Syndromes and a Century.
As the Thai economy teeters towards recession (factory output of consumer goods has fallen 20% since the coup) and The South descends into civil war, you might imagine that the government would have better things to do than silence musical monks or chase pretty girls around the countryside.
Apparently not.
