Stickman's guide to Bangkok

Stickman's guide to Bangkok

Kiwi ex-pat Stickman writes about his life in Thailand from first-time tourist to happily married English teacher. Like many westerners, he was initially attracted to the bar scene but gradually became disillusioned with it and ultimately married a respectable Thai woman.

His site started out as a factual guide to setting up home in Bangkok, enjoying the naughty nightlife and becoming an English teacher. Over the years, it grew into an interesting resource for readers involved with Thai women or seeking a new life in Thailand.

These days, our Bangkok commentator directs his energies into his popular weekly column. His wife is also drafted in to answer readers' questions. A diverse readership have contributed hundreds of submissions about their Thai adventures.

I'm just flummoxed by this. How can no one have something to say about this Thai-themed farang focused site?

Blank says:

'How can no one have something to say...?'

It's easy, really. Some desks hold stacks of pristine paper. Some computers contain gigabytes of unused space.

Not writing comes naturally if you just let things not happen.

I picked up the habit from Shakespeare. He gets the credit--I get the criticism.

TANAI KWAI says:

We all have our crosses to bear. Yours is being a writer of the caliber of Shakespeare but receiving none of the credit you so richly deserve.

That sound you heard was me falling down. I hit the corner of a table on my way to the floor and now can never write again. I hope everyone is happy.

TANAI KWAI says:

I would hazard to say that, with the exception of David, no one is indispensable to this board.

More to the point, you have threatened to leave us before... so don't expect me to start hyper-ventilating and flinging jealous recriminations at Stickman again.

Yes, he may be taking from us the finest young writer to have taken this board by storm since Ernesto Ortega. But I'm through hurting, Dana.

I have never managed to access The Stickman site. I just a get a blank black page with the title in primary colours and an Advert for My Thai Fiance. Crap website design infuriates me. This is the URL http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/ which I get referred to from most SEs.....can anyone please advise?

I take my last comment back..The Site has now eventually downloaded....but I don't rate the site so far. I miss the night owl in the Bangkok post. I liked the regular weekly update.

WaspFactory says:

A site full of information on Bangkok and Thailand, some quite useful but a lot very heavily influenced on the prostitution industry. A terrible design, shockingly bad. Take it with a pinch of salt but don't let the protagonist influence your decisions too much; after all, he's married and his main hobby is writing on whores and replying to the class of foreigner who marry these delightful women.

YH says:

Being female w/ hubby and child, the bar stuff was not overly helpful for me personally, but found much interesting and useful info on the website.

Not impressed at all by the website copying it and basically putting it down, notstickmanbangkok.com - given its vindictive nature.

But, Stickman is free to write about his views of life in Bangkok, and Galt also must be free to air his opinions also.
