Stickman returns!

The Rocky Balboa of Bangkok blogging is back for another shot at the title.

rocky

Unconfirmed sightings of Mr Stick jogging up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in a Pratunam tracksuit have led to speculation that he's spent the last five months punching animal carcasses in an industrial freezer.

Keith "Stalker" Summers - who models himself on Ivan Drago from Rocky IV (played by Dolph Lundgren) - inflicted a surprise knockout on the veteran fighter late last year but he was never the bookies' favourite and fight-fans have largely stayed away from his regular Thursday night bouts following a string of lacklustre performances.

Stick-lovers are eagerly anticipating the rematch.

Summers is a dickhead, but your post inspires the question, 'In what movie theatre can you find normal butter flavored popcorn in Bangkok?' With a bit of salt.

Paul says:

What is this Miss Udon stuff? Has the great Stick seen a marriage break up in this time as well?

Talk about a rough few months...

dingdongrb says:

Wow, what a great post! I'm sure it took several months to do the research and provide the wit that expels here.

(And to think that Pruie and GayNatzi say that I can't write. - geeeez)

I guess that long time off with a 'hacked' site paid off. Keep up the lame work.... Oh well mentioning Summers' name always conjures up some good threads.

Charles Edward Frith says:

Surely one of the most polished examples of why tabloids will never be as good as blogs. The Rocky Balboa of Bangkok....so succinct.... Complete with iconoclastic depiction.

Bravo!

Bandersnatch says:

“The Rocky Balboa of Bangkok blogging is back for another shot at the title.”
Um, would that title happen to be “Worst Writer of a Thailand-oriented Blog”?

Keith Summers has to be one of the most execrable writers ever to mangle the English language in a public place. And before an audience of several. But if Mr Stick has “spent the last five months punching animal carcasses in an industrial freezer,” it seems some of them have been punching back and landing blows to the head, knocking him squarely into Summers’ weight class.

It’s truly amazing that this guy is actually employed to teach the English language to others. I guess it attests to the old adage that those who can’t do, teach. I can only hope they don’t let him near anyone over the age of nine.

Okay, some of it is just carelessness and lack of proofreading, which lends the blog an air of charming amateurishness (along with the hideous white-on-black format).
That accounts for things like “states (statues) of Buddha images houses (housed) there” and “his (hit) the road.”

But old Stick-man has got some serious hyphenation issues, which is to say he apparently hasn’t got a clue, churning out the likes of “re-defined / anti-biotic / over-rated” on the one hand, and “a must see / noodle like kanom / off putting” on the other. (Nothing more off-putting than an off pudding, I always say.) I liked the bit about the “40 odd kilometre journey.” Just how odd were those kilometres?
And better “pre-warned” than, um, post-warned, I guess.

Setting aside the mind-numbingly pedestrian subject matter (Mr Stick goes to Watch Isaan, which is almost as scintillating as the Grating Galt Ho-Hum Honey Ho’ Hoedown), Sticky manages one or two truly magnificent manglings that even Summers might have a tough time outdoing:

“Generally the issue is settled there and then, most of which involve drunkery.”

Masterful. A misplaced modifier, disagreeing in number with its antecedent and containing a non-word. Could it be that Mr Stick was engaged in a little “drunkery” when he wrote this? “… a few drinks soaking up the atmosphere …” and the brain cells? A poor excuse, perhaps, but at least an excuse. Might also account for the Summers-esque “the sight of a farang will almost certainly having them fight …”

“ … much of urban Isaan is not that indifferent from the rest of Thailand.”

Yep. You’ll find that the Thais are pretty much indifferent to just about everything virtually anywhere you go in this fair, smiley, garbage-strewn land of mai pen rai. That’s something you should never misunderestimate. Not that they care or anything.

dannyboytf says:

I'm personally glad Stickman is back, people can say what they want about him but when i was a fresh off the boat Newby it was Stickmanbangkok.com that helped me out with some good advice, i should imagine other people too.

Makes you wonder though what that mentalist Summers is going to do next........?

Prufrock says:

Paul: First of all, a hearty high five from those of us who've at some point or other done the "trial by fire" thing and come out of it in one piece.

During this nasty confrontation with a certifiably imbalanced Keith Sommers, you acquitted yourself with skill and dignity.

But Stickman with an Udon chick in tow? Must be another April Fool's prank. He's on record as categorically despising the poor, darker-skinned, physiognomicly- less evolved, larcenous, unfaithful, deceitfully polygamous women of Isaan in favor of the garden variety light-skinned, "I go to Chula"- "I have to take this call"-"buy me this or I'll SULK" sluts of Paragon/Starbucks-Langsuan

Does this mean it will, as of NOW, once again, be OK again for a man to have an uneducated but stunningly attractive, naturally fit, loving, sensual but darker-skinned Thai gal with a good disposition (most of the time) who acknowledges the benefits of living with him begin and end with security and freedom from worry for her and her daughter?
Is that OK now, Stick?

Or do we have to, once again, wait for your exact spec in regards to her education, breeding, lust for a foreign passport and access to your pile?
And will we be once again regaled with an endless stream of cautionary tales from cunt-struck punters of all ages who either here or in their own countries cannot tell the difference between shit and Shinola?

Felix says:

But, whom does Stickman fear?

When a website is popular, like Stickman’s site, I believe it is a truism that the site attracts both supporters and detractors.

If Stick’s site is to remain successful, he has to continually keep the ideas fresh and be innovative.

For example, Stick recently ran 9 chapters of the 14 chapter “Bangkok Business”, and then he took it all down. That online story, with weekly installments, took a huge swipe at the Americans and their excessive influence over Thailand.

Who made Stick take that story down? John Galt or the CIA? Who is Stick afraid of?

Felix

CWM says:

Maybe Stickman weekly is back, but dont think its Mr & Mrs Stick at the keyboard, it just does not seem like his usual stuff, and if you read the last comment it seems to say that Stick Mark 2 is not Stick No1 maybe even a clue in the name Stick MARK 2?????
Whatever, glad Stickman is back up and running at full speed, the thing is, Galts drivel on a Thursady is so bad you cant help but go and read it, or should that be try and make sense of it!! Its like a bad road accident, you dont want to look, but you do anyway.

Road Natzi says:

Ding Dong Fuck Wit,

Prufrock and I didn't say you can't write, we said that you are never 'right'.

Why don't you keep rubbing the little ding dong and stay away from the keyboard - CUSTARD GUTS!

William Mahanakorn says:

David,

After a careful textual analysis, I don't think this is the original Stickman writing this. It is replete with typographical errors and grammatical problems. Also, the following sentence is way off the "mark", so to speak:

"As far as Bangkok goes, opening hours in most of the city's entertainment areas haven't seen any change. You can figure on most bars and nightspots closing at 2:00 PM, at which point you'll be unceremoniously thrown out on to the sidewalk, forced to either find a taxi to take you home, or find a late night venue to continue your boozing."

2:00 PM? "Unceremoniously thrown out"? Stickman certainly wasn't much of a drinker, but this paragraph alone is proof of a serious dipsomaniac, to put it mildly. Secondly, Stick Mark II took an unusual interest in the Isaan woman with the empty beer bottles, drunk in broad daylight. Only an alcohlic is interested in such details.

Has Stickman fallen to drink and taken up with a female of the piw sii dam variety, who, in turn, paraded him through the countryside like a captured prisoner, debased and humiliated, shackled like a water-buffalo with a quickly-emptying billfold?

Rather than coming triumphantly back into the ring, he seemed to have his laces tied together, or was hamsrung by Thunderlips Hogan on his way out of the corner. He blew an amazing opportunity.

buckwit says:

my mate Chris who runs the Blind Beggar (formerly Winchester) is not likely to be amused that stickman is saying his bar is closed, the wanker still needs to check his facts.

khun u phatet alai says:

I wouldn't really say "Stickman returns!" Stick Mark II is not the Kiwi I met. Completely different tone.
And rumour has it that Paul and the Mrs. are separated so Miss Udon is her replacement, it seems.
Now I have to send my spies (private investigators) out to "out" the new and unimproved Stick.
ps,
No I'm not that deranged stalker John Galt; I just like investigating investigators.

Another blogger says:

I agree. Stick Mark II is not the same writer as the original Stickman. This is a different person. Has Stickman sold the site?

jonesy says:

Welcome back Stick,
Guys why get so hung up over exactly whos writing what,
It seems that tosser Summers paranoid delusions may have rubbed off on some you guys
I am just glad Stick's Site is back online .For me it's an entertaining Website and occassionly have taken some info from it's many , many ,many pages of content.
thanks Stick for the many hours I've enjoyed your site , when i should be doing work stuff at work
peace
Jonesy

khun u phatet alai says:

jonesy,
If you think that's the original Stickman and not a ghostwriter then perhaps you are the delusional one. I'm going to take a wild guess that it's Who'sYourDaddy, Stick's sidekick and fellow (former?) English teacher.
I concede Stick was an icon for me after Bernard Trink, The Nite Owl got sacked at the Post and provided sometimes unopinionated advice to neophytes but if it wasn't for Stalkman outing Stickman I would never have found Mango Sauce (which is 10 times better and funnier). Strange how that worked out.

Greg Daruda says:

Truth is, Paul's wife HAS left him, 'associates' are writing the Mark II material, and that an exit visa from Thailand altogether is in the works for the former Bangkok Commentator.

Felix says:

Greg,

That is interesting. Where will Stick go? Back to NZ or to the Philippines with all of the Bad Boys that have already exited LOS?

Felix

Just a guy says:

I've been a reader of Stickman from the early days. There is no doubt in my mind that Stick Mark 2 is not the original writer (Paul). I've also had confirmation of that directly from Stick himself (although he doesn't know it).

With regards his wife I have no idea. I wouldn't read too much into the Miss Udon bit. I think now that Stick's identity has been made public he is trying to distance himself and his wife from the site (while still try to make some money out of it).

Also I don't know if he is returning to NZ or not. It's something he's talked about but who knows.

Cheers.

Match says:

"""I took a small trip to an area where I know there are buffalo roaming freely everyday. My first encounter was out in a dry rice field. This particular group were shy and would not allow me to approach them to closely. Here you see one of the larger members was giving me the "eye". He and the rest of the gang moved off when I walked within about 100 feet of them."""

There's so much you could say about this. Funny stuff from this week's NSM column.

Chris in Singapore says:

A poorly written column by a moderately-educated Kiwi. I do believe that Stickman's time is up, simply, there are much better written blogs out there (such as this one or BangkokBadBoy) with much less junk to sift through. Myself, I lost interest when Stick started publishing his contributors' 'literature'. I am interested in people's actual experiences in Thailand and NOT in their poorly written fantasies.

Road Natzi says:

And someone would purchase stickmans site, for what reason???

Crikey !

Tico Toss says:

Stick is now with a Ladyboy. He sold the site to a friend. Mrs. Stick got a chunck of change to go home to Issan. To bad he didn't take his own advise.

Tico

Dutchie says:

Stick Mark II is not the original Stickman but a friend of Stick's writing the column for what will be a very limited time.

Stick's advertisers had paid for advertising in advance and he was looking at dishing out a fairly substantial refund which he clearly doesn't have.

He arranged for a friend to put the column together so as to avoid maxing out his credit cards dispensing refunds!

The Mark II column will only run for several more weeks, extinguishing his financial liability, before going the way of the original.

Tracy got Thai'd says:

I personally think most of you need to find a life!! Hells bells if you go down this blog and read the nonsense people are writing its very evident that you guys have a lot of time on your hands.

Im pretty new to this and I can tell you that I agree with Dannyboypf...as a newbie, Stickman's article was full of very useful information that I found helpful. I could care less that a few words were misspelled or for that matter even made up....honestly it actually made it a better read and quite frankly I DONT CARE whos writting it now...if you dont like it DONT READ IT!!

I think some of you get a twisted kick out of disrespecting someone who is just trying to get a little ahead and helping people. What have the "haters" of this blog done?? If Stickmans articles are so bad why do they continue to read them?? Why dont they start their own website?? Because they dont have the balls and would rather criticize others...its much safer that way...COWARDS

And to take shots at a guy whos marriage ended is just plain mean, its evident that those doing this to stickman have never been through a divorce..well that or they're just evil.

I read a lot of different articles and blogs about Thailand on the internet, so far Stickmans has been the most informative for a newbee.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Dave The Rave says:

Dear David, I thought your piece "Stickman Returns" was a very innovative twist on Stickman's comeback. Nice one mate!

Dear Tracy got Thai'd, well said and I agree with you. The type you are talking about here are known as "keyboard warriors".

William Mahanakorn says:

Tom --

Here's petty for you: I just had a gander at your shameless plug, and a few things right off the bat. Your website is about 10 years behind the times, has no color and even less design sense. It has the aesthetics and architecture of a Department of Motor Vehicles website, and the feel of a tax form. It has been done to death already. You are digitally flogging a dead Tourism in Thailand horse. Here is a travel tip for you: Avoid Thailand until further notice.

Also, nobody wants to register (or enter fake information) for crappy ads, stock photos and fake threads anymore, even if you do plan to include a "ranking" system like "Pattaya Secrets", so that old men can feel good about each other and mutually masturbate over their miserable habits.

If you want to comment on Mangosauce, please leave something a bit more interesting than "seems petty to me" plus the address of your lame-ass website. Mangosauce is an island in the sea of mediocrity...to which your site undoubtedly contributes. Now, pass me a Lao rodent kebab and a bottle of Bia Lao.

Cheers.

Hmmm. No Stick Mark II column last Sunday! Was Dutchie ^ April 28, 2007 2:58 PM right?
Did the LED MAN fug up the Stick or have the censors added another one to the list?

Wombat says:

Was able to get his column over here last Sunday for what is was worth. So interesting I can't remember what it was about. Though to be fair the number of alcohol units consumed were up considerably.

war bucks says:

notstick whacks stick again. "GREAT STUFF". Why does Paul continue to ignore Keith. Paul answer this guy he is killing you on the net.

kwai mai sabai says:

Wombat,
Thanks! I can get it today (Tuesday in Canada). First time it's been late; could always get it Sunday morning (Sunday night in BKK).
A thrilling trip to the Floating Market..one tourist trap I always managed to avoid. Yawn.

war bucks says:

Black men not to the Japanese women's taste?

"I've spent a lot of time in many different Asian countries, and Asian women, on the whole, just aren't interested in black men. With the exception of prostitutes (or occasionally poorer women with a wealthy African American boyfriend) it is rare to see Asian women with black men. Even many prostitutes choose not to go with them. This is also true with Indian men. Just because one Japanese starlet wrote a book doesn't mean large numbers of Japanese women desire black guys. Living in Japan for two years, I could count the number of Japanese women with black guys on one hand."

Is the type of bullshit stickman allows to be printed on his website? Was this written by a Japanese male or a Japanese female or a Black male for that matter? If I had to guess it was written by a white probably racist American white male. I was in and out of Japan for the last 8 months. Never had any problems. My first night at the club I was hit on by 3 different Japanese girls. One even invited me out to dinner. There are so many half black-African-Japanese kids running around the prefecture Saitama in the city where I usually stay Kawaguchi its ridiculous. The only surprise I get is when the locals realize I am an American and not African. I wonder where this guys lives because it damn sure isn't near Toyko.

Not a Racist! says:

The Japanese are amongst the most racist, xenophobic on the planet and while the excerpted paragraph may be vulgar it is certainly true. The Japanese don't hold Westerners in the highest regard and blacks are deemed to be even lower. White guys have little success in Japanese pro jaunts and black men even less. Most places turn us away. Stickman might have printed this in bad taste and I am surprised to see him allow such racial nonsense in this day and age but it is the truth.

somchai says:

i've got one thing to say:

TIGER WOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

ozricdan says:

Not a Racist!

you forgot the chinese... they have to be no 1 just ask chris from luton.

he married one but could not get past first base for the amount of flem in his hair.

has anyone reading this thread been to china? surely you may agree with what i have said parcially!

oh btw the thai's dont really like black people especially africans actually the thai's are very proud for not letting any foreigners in thier country. oppps!

africans are not classed as farangs...see another story.

well i have never seen a bar-girl with a negro....although when they go out in the sun some of the thai's refer to themselves as chocolate or nigger.

really if you are suntanned you stand a good chance of NOT HAVING FUN WITH A THAI LOVELY.

the same applies in japan but for rasist remarks, yes sure they are but so are the germans or the english its just that some japanese can do it with a certain amount of flair.

think about it, when was the last time you heard an englishman be a racist and be classy about it

hey even some thai's speak to you and smile a wide smile and say what a nice man you are, walking away however is a class retort even your mother would not blush to.!

why you ask? simple. some things heard when spoken correctly can still be miscontrued as politeness.

so........my ex-g/f in uk did not like the word CUNT SO I USED TO SAY YOU CANT.

and she was english

KOJAI MAI.!

ps. for the english teachers out there.
remember...its all about the
Pronunciation.

The Lore says:

The Galt Rules over all the low grade tricks and scammy ways that Paul (stickman) and all his cronies rave on about! Go Go Galt Man! :)

war bucks says:

Come on ozricdan you never seen a bar girl with black guy would like to see some photos? Also I have a Thai friend I have known for 3 years and she has a college degree and works at the airport. My friend never heard the word nigger and I have never heard a Thai use that word. I think you just just put that out there to hurt some feelings. Trust me dude I been held up trying to get in first class lounges on international flights and asked repeatedly could they see my ticket. I have got use to the abuse. Any people of color reading this some people in Asia will like you some will not. I am sure its the same wherever you call home do not be deterred from enjoying Asia.

ozricdan says:

war bucks.........

i was refering to the lower class uneducated thai's who say nigger it just means they are of black color.

which meanns they are right in part and do not know it. the word negro is latin for blacken but the word blacken can be used as a derogatory term.
the thai's however do not know this but this is still a form of racism.

chocolate however exists in all classes of thai culture just read some of mangosauces earlier postings about skin whitening.

an englishman i spoke to earlier in surin got really annnoyed when some germans came to the resturant but he kept quiet and whispered to me i hate these fucking krauts.

krauts being a slang term for germans.

my point was and is that although we travel far and wide to experience different cultures, in the vain hope that we may experience some unegative attitutes, there seems to always be the same racism i encountered in western cultures here in thailand from farangs. the asians are the same its just said differently.

i have learned one important fact.!

the world is the same over....!

the women are much better here also.

hehe!

even the negro women!
especially on koh samui!
