Tanks for the memories: Tejero in Thailand

tejero

Lieutenant-Colonel Antonio Tejero's 1981 bid to overthrow Spain's fledgling democracy was thwarted by his preposterous hat and comedy moustache. Thailand's new military leaders have learned some important lessons from his mistakes.

Tejero served 15 years in jail for staging the abortive coup but his bad impersonation of Inspector Clouseau went completely unpunished.

Today, he lives quietly near the coastal resort of Malaga but, had Tejero retired to Pattaya, the world's favourite anti-democracy activist might, right now, be drawing up a list of demands:

1. Immediate arrest of the pick-pocketing katoeys at Asoke Junction.

2. Removal from circulation of those pesky 25 satang coins that you always get in your change from Tops supermarket but can never spend.

3. Sale of vile birthday cakes made from shaving foam to be banned.

4. Imposition of a weight limit on farang women.

5. Broadband Internet access to be supplied at a speed that bears some resemblance to the figure advertised.

6. Repeal ban on foreigners owning property.

7. Reinstatement of rear seatbelts in taxis.

8. Unblock pornographic websites - especially Mr Chew's Asian Beavers.

9. Abolish visa runs.

10. UBC to show some decent programs for a change.

11. Scrap requirement that companies must be 51% Thai owned.

12. At least 51% of showgirls to refrain from shaving off their pubic hair.

13. Abolish import duty on beer and wine.

14. Return of lesbian dildo shows to Nana Plaza (as suggested by duangping).

15. Sensible 8 a.m. closing time (also suggested by duangping).

16. Outright ban on hi-so Thais constantly banging on about their fucking cars. Since when did a Toyota Yaris become a status symbol?

17. Condoms (and shoes) to be made available in larger sizes.

18. Children to offer their seats to adults on the Skytrain.

19. More beer girls in ever-sluttier outfits and bigger tits across the board.

20. World to be taught to sing in perfect harmony.

The word from Government House is that Tejero's first 19 demands are "red-line" issues but that there might be room for flexibility on point 20.

Combover says:

Erm, if he lived in Pattaya why would he care how much farang women weighed?

Unless you meant a lower weight limit of (say) 80kg, perhaps coupled with 44" hips, to help him feel ever more smug in his choice of abode.

ben says:

21) to stop this two pricing bullshit and stop treating us like fucking aliens

Common Sense says:

Maybe the love of hairy bushes is a European thing but I'll take mine cleanly shaven any day. You can still catch the dildo show in Pattaya by the way.

sniffer says:

Maybe the love of dimwitted but psychotic Bushes is an American thing but I'll take a raincheck, if you don't mind. You can still catch people who don't blindly applaud Dubya's evil foreign policies in just about any other country in the world, by the way

Mr Thaksin, BKKchat.org says:

Sadly David your touchy censorship cuts of generally inoffensive posts here may well be the nail in the coffin for this site.

you are becoming a stickman like Napoleonic figure here now.

come back real David all is forgiven

Thaxo. { will take my whole crowd elsewhere unless you pull your socks up lad, and that includes "Sandra" my blow up Doll.}

Hi Mr Thaksin

You raise an important point but please bear in mind that an off-topic squabble between two guys is of little interest to anyone else.

The site currently attracts about 130,000 unique visitors a month so leaving a comment here is the online equivalent of addressing a packed football stadium.

They don't come here to be bored shitless.

Having said that, however, I don't censor many comments and I certainly don't delete remarks that happen to be critical of me - as you seem to be implying.

I remove about 20 comments a week and the great majority of these are yours (for reasons that you already understand).

You're right about the "nice boxes" though.

Regards
David

"2. Removal from circulation of those pesky 25 satang coins that you always get in your change from Tops supermarket but can never spend."

2a. Removal from circulation of those pesky new 2 baht coins that look nearly identical to 1 baht coins, especially when one's shuffling through masses of change, and even more so after a few drinks.

Eniac says:

Regarding dual pricing, a proposal has been made to increase the price of admission to Thailand's national parks from 200 baht to 400 baht.

Thai nationals will continue to pay just 20 baht.

None of the money raised appears to be spent on clearing rubbish.

ben says:

just about everything in this place has two prices as soon as our white face is shown or they see your name then its racist bullshit two price starts would be fucking uproar if this happend in the west
imagine just because you are asian you would have to pay ten times more than a local !!!

Reader for Democratic Reform (formerly "Caretaker Reader") says:

I remember seeing this on the news, this guy appeared, brave MPs shout in disapproval, wave order papers, etc., he fires a shot into the ceiling and with an audible "zhoom" noise every single MP disappeared onto the floor between the seats leaving a few papers floating to the ground. Funniest thing I've ever seen on political news.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that apparently a military coup in Thailand results in fewer people being shot than does a general election? Also, the bars don't close for a military coup. I used to be a supporter of democracy, but now I'm not so sure.

Mr Thaksin, BKKchat.org says:

ahhhhhhhh bless him x
Davo knows l make sense at da end of da day.

l'll follow orders just for you David and waffle on relevent subject matter.

l shagged a gal by the nick name of "Rotang" once.

yep she was build like a tank.

those pesky little thai men are welcome to all the rib caged exposed thai birds they like.
l'll always prefer the more "Rotang" types.

did l pass Davo ???

Thaxo.

Grunt says:

Get Pinochet and this guy together for a regular laugh riot.

Andy says:

Good thing about National Parks is that they are by their nature large and easy to enter, without using the turnstile.

bangkokram says:

Don't get me started on dual pricing!

Whether it be buying a new aircon unit, curtains, Plant pot or even a bottle of bloody Chang. I have to send my better half into the shop to buy it. As soon as they see a foreigner, the price is doubled or even tripled.

A new water tank bought by the wife 6000bht, a day earlier the price to me 15000bht.

Now we just ask for the Thai price and if I feel i'm still being ripped off I just leave and go to the next place and send the wife in again on her own.

I also remember seeing the above Generalissimo on TV when it happened, my first thought was a Basil Fawlty sketch. Top TV!

Matt Crook says:

If John Cleese had been in charge of all coups then perhaps the world would be a better place.

SPQR_US says:

So my ravings are being read by 130,000 unique people per month? And here I thought it was just my cell mates in the mental ward.

Are those really people or are they bots? The site is really cool, just curious. Interested in knowing. If that 130K is likely people, maybe I should be more careful...

-Nope can't help myself.

Thanks for the forum David!

Common Sense says:

sniffer,

Sometimes when an American refers to bush we are talking about the hairy kind found around the vagina. Consult with you high school sexual education teacher to recieve a refresher of where this is on the female body.

ben says:

even going to the bleeding dentist there are two prices me and the missus was there last month both had one filling each both had a clean up hers was 600 baht mine was 800. why i said ? is my fucking tooth bigger than hers ??? i gave them 1200 and told them to shove it .

sniffer says:

Thanks, common sense, but I do recognise a cunt when I see one

Mr. Billy says:

You neglected an important one: remove 90% of Thai males from the country. Keep the other 10% around solely for the purpose of producing more Thai females.

Looper says:

'..the coup's leaders .. have now banned all dancing near tanks.'

'go-go dancers - who appeared in skimpy camouflaged tops and pants - were the final straw'

quotes from front page article on BBC news website - too funny...!

Common Sense says:

So you may think sniffer. I'm sure many a bar girls have had a traumatic/funny experience when you go sniffing around what you may think is a cunt. By a map that explains to you Barney style how to find the glory hole.

sniffer says:

...and your dad's bigger than my dad, I'm sure. What was that dumb, testesteroned jock called in Back to the Future? Biff, was it?
tit-tat, tit-tat, to quote another thread

Reader for Democratic Reform (formerly "Caretaker Reader") says:

Ben - I wouldn't go back to that dentist if I were you!

Common Sense says:

I wouldn't know. I'm not old enough to have remembered the 80's as vividly as you are.

Combover says:

Dual pricing. Don't get me started. I'm sick to death of being charged double by bar girls, just because I have an enormous cock.

Or that's what they tell me :-(

Manjara says:

17) Condoms (and shoes and underwear!) to be made available in larger sizes.

...not that I'm a fat-arse or anything
