I'd like to tell a bit of my story in reply, to aware some farangs about some real traps and that Thailand is not exactly the paradise of love. Yes, there's a real risk to completely loose yourself there...

Before to come to Thailand for the first time 3 years ago, I had not the profile of a naive and big fat tourist that you can cheat easily. I was 23 years old, was rather well off, proud of myself and visited 25 countries on my own before to end there.
Everything was fine during the first few weeks I was there. I then met a girl in BKK, and falled in love with her step by step. She looked perfect during the first few months. Soon I took in charge the whole family ( financially and even psychologically speaking ), including her two kids. I was still young, I could have got dozains of girls without caring this one in particular, but only this was not my style and I'm rather romantic...
The familly was so huge that I lost my mind trying to clear their many problems with my girlfriend. We had no intimacy at all, althrough we had an appartment together in BKK.

During 3 years, I made a mission to teach this 24 years old girl about life, taking her to a few countries and showing her there were more than fashion and discos in the World, but finally it was like I talked to a blind wall. . All these efforts were unfructful. I was always the last one after her big family and her (many) friends, althrough I was still planning to marry her during all this time. Once I was really in love, she could do anything she wanted with me, giving me the impression I still had the control of the situation, but it was not the case. She also liked to play a lot with my jealousy feelings, often telling that anyway, she could get better with some others guys. During 3 years, I tried to make my best in order to improve her quality of life but I was always alone in my efforts and she only caused me more troubles ( for example, among many others, she once dropped 6000 Euros in cash into Chao Praya River during a jealousy crise ) while I was trying to build something serious for our future....
Finally, after she cheated me for everything I had ( including my mind and my health ), I learnt she was not faithful during the short moments I had to go back to my country, France. She was so good at lying that she managed to make me believe even the most unbelievable... Many Thai girls know the way to turn you mad with love ( whatever you're clever, naive or not...) and this one even pushed me to make crazy things. She's almost sent me to jail... Our relation, moreover, soon became a nightmare so much she was exigeant, hysterical and jaleous. I could also notice that her friends acted the same way with some others farangs, in order to cheat them everything they had, but I didn't want to admitt she was the same. The worst is that during all the time I stayed with that girl, I was conscient of all this, but love made me blind and I didn't want to admitt the evidences. She new the way to look lovely and talk with me when I was upset... Some Thai girls have this strange power to make you stay whatever the problems are, as if you were cursed... I still can't explain, 4 months after, how I could fall into this so easily and loose myself so much.

Today, I'm 26 years old, and I can tell that this girl broke my life at many levels. I'm fighting with my many debts and my now poor health, caused by permanent worries and anger from the past 3 years...
I am feeling sorry that this girl gave me such bad souvenir of a wonderful country, Thailand.

So, please be careful if you're a single man coming to Thailand for the first time. Of course, a few love stories between farangs and Thais end well, but keep in mind that these girls are often more clever and heartless than they want to show, and the huge differences of culture make very difficult a serious relation.

Although 'nice' girls can but just as bad, and I should know, the odds are that bit more against you with a BG. On the plus side you are still young and presumably do not have any kids, so you still have your life ahead of you and in time will be able to put all this behind you. Well, human nature is the same everywhere but culture makes lots of differences also... As I told, I travelled a lot through the World before to come to Thailand, and met also a few bad people, but never some being able to cheat on such a long therm and as much easily as in Thailand...
We have to tell that there are not so many countries in the World where love is so often considered as a business into local mentalities... In Thailand, it became a real industry !
Althrough i didn't want to admitt my former GF was a bad one, I took time to observe the techniks of many "business" girls in Thailand and they all have the same maneer to proceed.
